Last week I visited my niece's high school.  It is a performing arts high school and the entire school was filled with energy.  The dancers were dancing to music that was being played in their orchestra pit, by their orchestra students.  The walls and trash cans were painted by the students.  The halls were filled with choir music. My heart ached!  I want this for our students.
Then I came across this music program that was created at a school site using music apps on the iPad. I thought about the many possibilities of this program for our school.  It is something to think about as money gets tight.  How do we are the leaders and teachers of our school provide the opportunities for the arts for our students? We have to think outside the box.

  1. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles and The San Diego Museum of Art both provide free lesson plans and teachers and support staff can use to incorporate art in language-based instruction from vocabulary development to story telling and sequencing.

I'm excited to review both of those websites and the museums to find ways I can use art to teach language. It is such a perfect way to expand concrete concepts into abstract ones.

    1. I love that idea. I am dying to figure out a way to expand the arts at our school especially with our new devices.

  2. I'm saddened to imagine 4th graders losing the opportunity to learn to play recorder. I learned in college but no one wants to hear that! At least technology might lessen the pain of losing yet another fine arts component of elementary education.
